A Soul Care Meditation: Being Uniquely You, Masking and Unmasking as a Neurodivergent Soul

A Black woman joyfully on a beach with outstretched arms, white lace dress, text overlay: "A Soul Care Meditation: The Artform of Unhurried Living for the Heart of the Bon Vivant"

"Be gentle with yourself as you mask + unmask: Like a Monstera, coiling is not failure, and unfurling is not a demand. Both are acts of self-tending—both expressions of your inherent worth in the abundance of boundless compassion." - Pastor Angie

SOULjourner,

Think of the Monstera: it coils tight to protect itself, then unfurls when it senses safety. Masking is like that protective coil—not hiding, but safeguarding your neurodivergent soul.

The Monstera unfurls not just to protect, but toward life:

  • To Reach for the Light: To maximize its surface to absorb life-giving energy + thrive.

(Just as we unmask to reach out for new experiences in the world.)

  • To Breathe Freely: To allow for better air circulation and prevent the build-up of moisture that could lead to rot.

(Just as unmasking allows us to breathe emotionally, releasing the pressure of the "rot" of conformity)

  • To Display its Unique Beauty: Each new leaf is a testament to its growth + health, a unique expression of its inherent nature.

(Just as unmasking is a declaration of our unique quirks, a celebration of our sacred embodiment, and a visible sign of our journey.)

Whether in the coiling or unfurling, we get to create gardens of sacred sanctuary: sharing our stories, lifting each other, and planting seeds of change.

The Not Typical Collection cultivates this garden: resources + community. Together, we nurture wellbeing.

Dance between coiling + unfurling, knowing you are grounded in great worth + wholeness.
