Today, as we conclude our meditation on your one sensory sanctuary word, we turn to perhaps the most liberating aspect of this practice: understanding your word as a description of your unfolding journey rather than a prescription for perfection.
Description vs. Prescription: The Difference Between Growth + Guilt
In the garden, we don't command plants to grow—we create conditions for flourishing and then watch with wonder as nature unfolds according to its wisdom. So too with your one word.
It is not a strict overseer insisting on results by using guilt as an incentive, but rather a companion describing the path you're already walking.
When I embrace "devoted" as a description, I recognize moments of devotion already present in my life rather than criticize myself for falling short of some idealized standard. I notice where devotion naturally arises + gently nurture those tendencies, rather than forcing devotion where it doesn't exist.
This distinction offers liberation in a world often constructed around neurotypical expectations; your one word creates a space where your unique way of being is honored. There is no "correct way" to live into your word—only your way, which is what makes this practice so potent.
Like the most beautiful gardens, your journey with your word will include both cultivated spaces + wild growth—each with its glory.
The Dance of Intention + Grace
Your word exists in the fertile space between intentional cultivation + unexpected gift.
Some days, your word will feel like a distant ideal. Other days, it will seem to find you without effort. Both experiences belong to the journey. The soil of your life may appear dormant through seasons of hardship, yet beneath the surface, your word continues its quiet work of transformation.
Keep in mind that this practice of contemplating sensory words is not meant to be just another task on your to-do list. It's about a dance between intention + grace.
SOULjourner, you are creating a perspective that allows you to view your current life with enhanced curiosity + compassion.
A Spring Blessing - A Description, Not A Prescription
May your word be a gentle description of who you are becoming, not a harsh prescription that denies who you already are.
May you recognize its presence in unexpected corners of your life, a welcome surprise like wildflowers in an untended field.
May your word offer direction without constraint, inspiration without burden, truth without blame.
May your word be a faithful companion throughout this year, describing with tender accuracy the sacred ground you're already walking.
May you find, when the year concludes, that your word has written itself upon the garden of your heart—not with the sharp edge of obligation, but with the tender touch of love.
Amen + Asé
Reflection for Your Journey
Where do you already embody your word, perhaps without even realizing it?
How might you release any perfectionistic expectations around your word?
What would it mean to receive your word as a gift rather than achieve it as a goal?
SOULjourner, there's a sacred work that one word can do in + through you. Make sure to share your word with others—it will all the more galvanize you as you let it develop deep roots.
