Sensory Grounding Exercise: The 5-4-3-2-1 Method
Allow the Spirit of Truth to swaddle you when feelings of rejection arise. Try this gentle sensory grounding practice to bring your attention back to the present moment:
5: Name five things you can see around you.
4: Notice four things you can touch—the texture of your clothing, the surface beneath your hands, or a nearby object.
3: Listen for three sounds you can hear—birds, a clock ticking, or distant voices.
2: Identify two smells in your environment—fresh air, a candle, or a cup of your favorite beverage.
1: Focus on one thing you can taste—a sip of water, a mint, or simply the taste in your mouth.
This practice helps anchor your mind + body, reminding you that you are here, safe, and held.
Meditate: In moments of rejection or loneliness, breathe deeply + invite God’s presence to surround your heart. Let this grounding exercise and scripture remind you that you are accompanied + accepted.

This Lenten season...
May you find refuge in the wilderness, where rejection loses its power to define you.
May you hear God’s voice whispering, “You are beloved.”
May your unique brain and heart be honored, and may you walk forward with courage, knowing that the wilderness is fertile ground for holy encounters and deep acceptance.
