Our Morning Muddy Mushroom Hot Cocoa Ritual - The Morning Five Communion

(links are at the end to lessen distractions.)

SOULjourners, on this Tending Tuesday, I have a recipe for our morning’s robust ruminations. Let's get our hands muddy + mushroomy as we spice up our morning ritual with an anti-inflammatory, clean, chocolatey energy elixir that optimizes our feminine flow + glow. Of course, it's for after we've had our Morning Five H2O cocktail.

In all of this, we seek to sustain these bodies + our soul's desires. Asé + Amen

A glass mug filled with the hot chocolate mushroom. It’s topped with whip cream nutmeg and cinnamon.
It’s hot chocolate elevated!

Ingredients

1 cup Oat Milk (or preferred milk)

1 tsp Turkey Tail Mushroom

1 tsp Moringa

1 tsp Cocoa

½ tsp Turmeric

(a pinch) Black Pepper

½ tsp Ginger

(to taste) Honey or Dark Muscovado

½ tsp Nutmeg

(to taste) Clove

½ tsp Cinnamon

(2-3 TBSP) Red Clover Blossoms

1 tsp Vanilla

Top with whipped cream

Preparation

  1. Beloved, breathe, brew to infuse the red clover blossoms into the oat milk (if you use whole cloves, place them in to brew about 3-4 is plenty. If using powder wait till #3).

  2. Pause + select the vessel from which you'll sip + savor.

  3. Pour the oat milk/red clover into the mug or bowl you've chosen with ease + empathy.

  4. Bring about a spicy congregation in the milk as you add all the earthly ingredients into your vessel. Especially give thanks for the healing presence of the Turkey Tail mushroom. This is a halleluYAH moment.

  5. Frothing elevates the fellowship, whether you do it manually or in a blender.

  6. For the next 30 seconds, listen to the sound of the frother or blender - they're moving things. Now imagine yourself in a movement that blends all your unique sense of spice. Top with whipped cream, cinnamon, and nutmeg (if you desire).

  7. Touch, see, smell, serve up, taste and enjoy yourself!

  8. Asé + Amen

Dark Muscovado sugar is being added to the mug of hot chocolate with the Turkey Tail pouch and frothed nearby.
A sugar alternative—dark Muscovado

Looking for a sugar alternative? You might want to try Muscovado. Because Muscovado sugar has more molasses than many other types of sugars, it holds on to some of the antioxidant properties of molasses. And the depth of flavor it gives is simply luxurious.

Lemme know if you make it and how it served you. It tastes like being swaddled in a warm blanket. 😌✨😊

☆☆ Didya know?

For my dog lovers: Turkey tail mushrooms can be used as an immunity booster for dogs and help the dog's body to recognize cancer tumors and fight them directly. University of Pennsylvania's School of Veterinary Medicine did a study on turkey tail mushrooms using 15 dogs with an aggressive type of cancer. A few compounds have been identified, which have anti-tumor properties. The most significant of these is polysaccharide K (shortened to PSK), which is sold commercially as Krestin.

Although there seems to be very little to support the usefulness of Turkey tail tea, the mushroom is an edible, medicinal fungi, rich in antioxidants that help our body with the stress response, which I think as a collective we could all use right now!

𝙹𝚘𝚞𝚛𝚗𝚊𝚕 𝚃𝚒𝚖𝚎: Let's think of mushrooms as little gems on the forest floor—essential to our ecosystem. Now ponder how your life sometimes mirrors that of a mushroom's miraculous presence in our world (maybe go to YouTube and geek out). Shalom.

Caution: I recommend before using herbal products, particularly if you are pregnant, nursing, or on any medication, check with a qualified healthcare practitioner. This information is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.

Until next time, Asé + Amen
