As the moon waxes + wanes, so do the seasons of our lives and our soul care. Each lunar phase invites us to notice, nurture, and embody to release + renew—reminding us that wellbeing is not linear, but beautifully cyclical, just like the moon. In this season of Mental Health Awareness Month, we are called to honor these sacred rhythms.


With open hands and contemplative hearts, we practice Sankofa—reaching back to ancestral wisdom that recognized the moon’s messages. Our elders watched the night sky, attuned to its rhythms, and shaped their days + celebrations around its cycles. We bring that wisdom forward, letting it bless our present journey.


A Holy Haiku - Cyclical Lunar Rhythms


Moonlight ebbs and flows

Cycles in the sky and me

Wax, wane, and return


Amen + Asé


This haiku invites us to reclaim the divine design of honoring the cyclical lunar rhythms—embracing the ebb + flow—the waxing and waning—as essential to our mental, emotional, physical +d spiritual health.


This is the heart of Sankofa: returning to the gift of living in tune with the rhythms that sustain us, remembering that rest is a holy action, and renewal is our birthright.

Mini-Lesson: Moedim and the Gift of Sacred Cycles


In Genesis, we read:

“Then God said, ‘Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night; and let them be for signs and for seasons, and for days and years.’” (Genesis 1:14)

The Hebrew word for “seasons” here is moedim (pronounced moh-eh-DEEM), which means appointed times or sacred festivals. In the biblical tradition, the sun and moon were created not only to mark time, but to help us remember + honor these appointed cycles—moments for gathering, resting, and reflecting.


Moedim reminds us that life is meant to be lived in rhythm: with times for work and times for rest, times for release and times for renewal. Historically, and still today for certain communities, the lunar calendar sets the timing for these sacred festivals + communal pauses—assisting souls in harmonizing their lives with the natural rhythm of creation.

In my 12-Minute New Moon Musing Meditation, I shared how the New Moon offers a sacred pause—a time to set intentions, rest, and listen deeply to what our souls need. The moon’s cycle teaches us that every phase has purpose: darkness is not emptiness, but fertile ground for new beginnings.


As you reflect on your own rhythms, consider how you might honor your need for rest, release, and renewal. Just as the moon does not rush its return to fullness, we too can trust the wisdom of our slower seasons.

And release what no longer energizes as it wanes.

May your soul find peace in every phase—

Cradled by Elohim's sacred cycles that connect us all.
